The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
