The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
