The Gunners Face Wolverhampton Wanderers in Key English Top Division Clash

All eyes turn for a compelling Premier League contest as league leaders the Gunners welcome bottom-placed Wolves to the Emirates Stadium.

Starting Lineups

Mikel Arteta's side have opted for a trio of alterations following the XI that suffered a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in their previous outing. The French defender, the Swedish striker and Gabriel Martinelli all come into the lineup. Martin Ødegaard and the Spanish midfielder are named on the bench, while the Italian defender is not involved. The centre-back is back after missing five matches through injury.

The visitors also make three changes to their lineup after being soundly beaten 4-1 at home by United on Monday evening. Matt Doherty, the Brazilian midfielder and Hwang Hee-chan come in. Hoever and Jhon Arias drop to the bench, while Bellegarde is omitted altogether.

The Setup

Good evening! And I mean, look at this …

The table reveals a clear contrast. Arsenal sit proudly at the top of the table, while their opponents occupy the bottom of the division.

… yet while this will be the 42nd occasion the top side have faced the side at the foot of the division – winning 30 victories from 41, with seven draws – who are behind two of the four historical shocks? Why, Wolves, of course! So while Mikel Arteta will surely be expecting another three points, Rob Edwards must know that underdogs sometimes come off, and anything is possible. Kick-off is at 8 o'clock in the evening GMT. The action is imminent!

(The other two last-over-first victories in the modern top-flight era are Oldham Athletic's 1-0 win over Manchester United in March 1993, and Tottenham Hotspur – admittedly, a surprising one - defeating Liverpool in November 2008.)
