A total of 12 cultural artefacts were officially given back to the Ethiopian nation following staying by a household from Germany for in excess of a century.

These treasures, initially gathered in the 1920's by the German then-envoy to the Ethiopian empire Franz Weiss and his spouse Hedwig, were delivered on this past Wednesday to the research center at Addis Ababa University.

This assortment included headpieces, armor and paintings, all regarded as historically valuable in the country.

"These treasures still represent a symbol of the long-standing and positive connection between Germany and the Ethiopian people," stated Germany's envoy, the envoy to the East African country.

Professor a professor, whose father was born during the household's assignment in Ethiopia, presented the artefacts at a event joined by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.

He said that the household's goal to give back the items was to "share their splendor with the people and maintain the culture and past tied to my father's beginning."

The objects were either considered gifts or buys, according to the relatives.

"I want to express gratitude to Professor Weiss's household for practically showing their deep love for the nation by meticulously maintaining these treasures and importantly securing their homecoming to their proper homeland," commented the minister of tourism.

The minister added that the items would shortly be opened to the general audience for investigation and scholarly work, describing the move a landmark in safeguarding the nation's national treasures.

"Efforts will continue to bring back historical objects that are found in the hands of individuals and institutions around the world," she affirmed.

During colonial rule in Africa, many of traditional items were taken.

The demand by African countries for the return of looted artefacts has been met with certain success in lately - though some objects are just on short-term display.

Back in 2022, the German government was the first nation to give back a selection of the well-known historical items to the West African nation as part of an effort to address its "complex past."
