Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
