Approximately twenty-five thousand households in Queensland's southeast were left without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the state, producing strong winds hitting 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Widespread Destruction

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were expected to linger along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the region.
