Based on data provided by Israel, a minimum of 98 detainees from Palestine have lost their lives during detention since October 2023. A human rights group located in Israel has indicated that the real toll is likely significantly higher, as a result of hundreds of unaccounted for detainees in Gaza.

“While we are presenting proof for a larger total of deaths than once estimated, this is not the entire story,” he explained. “We are certain that there are yet individuals who perished in detention that we are unaware of.”

Civilian Deaths

Classified official information suggests that the largest portion of Palestinian detainees from Gaza who lost their lives in jail were ordinary citizens, based on a simultaneous examination.

In May of 2024, a defense forces registry monitoring all militants in Gaza, a registry of in excess of 47,000 named individuals, recorded merely 21 casualties in detention. By that point, 65 individuals from Palestine from Gaza had lost their lives in detention.
